-Building adds value to humanity.

-Renovating adds value to humanity.

-Maintenance adds value to humanity.

But the actual act of land-lording adds nothing to humanity-- it does the opposite: Commercializing shelter raises prices for everyone.

So... build places for your kids, but don't charge them rent. Let them pay their utilities, but don't profit off them or anyone else. Don't make them pay your mortgage, because that profits you.

Genuinely providing shelter for others is laudable, but profiting from shelter is a sin and crime.
