1. No. If houses were significantly more affordable, millions of renters would become homeowners. Not-for-profits, co-ops, and municipalities would be the only groups to offer rentals henceforth.

Re: bridging, please see point 1 again. This proposal would greatly expand the middle class, decrease overall debt but a major multiple, increase homeownership significantly, and use market forces to push extractive land-lorders to re-allocate capital elsewhere. If we don't do what's being suggested in the article, will are going to witness the reemergence of serfdom within one generation.
