Private prisons are currently controlled by monopolistic for-profit corporations, Russell. When you eliminate the profit motive (because the Daman Model is a for-the-people-only model), those parasites will skitter off elsewhere. (And democracy could always choose to keep prisons and other keystone institutions as a state/fed purview, of course. Not that anything the fed runs is run well...)
