Re-read the piece and note I did not say Ethiopia was colonized by Europe... but it totally was. It's complicated, but I've been to Ethiopia and the marks of Italy are everywhere. But Ethiopia is definitely more of the latter-- a place that sought to grab more territory (ie Eritrea) in the wake of colonial retrenchment.
