There are plenty of ways to facilitate loans/credit without interest. It's a usurious extraction from the contributor class.

For-profit land-lording is rent-seeking and is a massive drain on the economy. If you ban interest and for-profit land-lording and built sufficient supply, houses would cost 2-3X annual income and the vast majority could easily afford to purchase.
