To your first point Kerry, yes, interest-free credit is excellent. That's how healthy civilizations and markets function. Throwing in usury destroys the equation, as servicing said debts becomes impossible.

To your Q: I never said they would.

I also said the government wouldn't own the banks-- they'd spin them off as not-for-profits with strong democratic oversight. IE, no more liar's loans, no more NINJA loans, no more bankrolling monopolies with cheap debt, no more derivaties gambling. The incentive to risk and ruin the economy disappears.

Then, on top of that, any and all bank profits go to the commons. The net benefits to democratizing banks are massive.
